Records and Information Management (RIM) Initiatives

Once you have assessed where you are and where you want to be, ESI Attorneys can work with in-house counsel, records and IT to implement a Records and Information Management (RIM) Initiative.  The key to a successful initiative is to create the picture of the process/management of ESI you want in place, and work towards it.

The initiative is a large umbrella that can cover any or all of five key components:

  • Creating an ESI data map
  • Drafting appropriate policies
  • E-mail management
  • Creating a records retention schedule
  • Creating an organization specific E-discovery Guide.

In addition to the five key components, in any RIM initiative, ESI Attorneys provides organization wide training to introduce and train your employees on the new policies and procedures implemented as part of the RIM initiative.

The goals of the RIM initiative are to:

  • Understand the sources of ESI in the organization,
  • Create a program or protocol for conducting e-discovery in the organization, and
  • Establish communication between legal and IT to keep legal informed of changes in the IT infrastructure in the organization that may affect the e-discovery process.

The results of a successful RIM initiative are cost savings in e-discovery, a consistent, defensible process, and deeper communication and understanding of functional roles within your organization.
